Apple Store Up: MacBook Spec and Speculation

The store is now up- what I find interesting is that they are using 2.0 or 2.4 processors with DDR3 (1066mhz) ram *translation* that looks to be really damn fast. No wonder they say that these new machines have a "snappy" response. The store is still hanging on to the last gen MacBooks and MacBook Pro's....but for how long? I'm wondering if Apple will just keep the "white" MacBook as the entry level MacBook (i.e. the student Mac)? This could help them continue to gain ground in the market. Already, at least on WWU's campus, I have already noticed a lot more glowing Apples in the Underground Coffee house.

Remarks from the Grad Student
Already I know a few who read my blog are saying to themselves (you know who you are)
"Ha, well...AJ is going to make a trip to the Apple store soon to upgrade"

The truth is...not anytime soon. I like my trusty BlackBook. If I got a ram upgrade to this machine- I would be set. The only thing that would really sway me to run and grab one of these beautiful machines is the battery life. My BlackBook gets awesome life as it is, and performs great for my mobile life. But who knows, once I get my hands on one to try out....perhaps I will be persuaded. Really, I will wait and hear what users have to say about these new machines. Besides, I like my trusty tried and trusted BlackBook.
My thoughts are if you have been waiting to buy a Mac- this might be the time for you. With the added hardware advancements at basically the same price point- its not too bad. Now, there are some PC readers saying that they are still over priced. And that you could buy a Dell, Gateway, (insert manufacture here) for cheaper with XP or Vista. My reply is still the same...some people like working on their Ford's....I like to drive Ferrari!

The only hesitation have as I say that is...what about MacWorld this January? Apple in the last three months have released A LOT! Do they have anything else up their black turtle-neck sleeves to continue to rock the tech world?

Rock on Steve Jobs! Rock on.

AJ,

I have to agree with your assessment. Though I'm pretty pissed that they announced the new MBP (less than 6 months after I upgraded), the technology isn't yet worth upgrading for. Wait roughly another year and it'll be a better deal. By then, I would imagine that at the very least Blu-ray will become a standard (and lower cost) option. Considering nVidia is looking to release a new GPU series soon, that's one more consideration.
BLUF: If you've got one already, then don't bother to upgrade. If you're looking to switch to Mac, then wait just a little longer.

@crudes
I concur with your observations. As always, fanboys will run out to get these new machines. Your are right, for the normal consumer, I would wait until this first gen gets all the bugs worked out. I have heard that some people are having minor problems with the new clicking track pad- unknown if it is software or mechanical.
